Three Christmases by AuKestrel
Due South: Fraser/RayK

In the spirit of the day, I'm reccing this Christmas story by the talented AuKestrel, who is fast becoming my favorite author in this fandom. It is the prequel to the novella "Near Wild Heaven" which is rec'ed below. It's one of the few holiday stories that I actually enjoy. Fraser gives Ray and Welsh a wonderful surprise on Christmas day.

Sadly, it seems AuKestrel has left the DS fandom, after being harrassed by an immature troublemaker with way too much time on her hands. It's unfortunate that some people feel the need to start trouble in a community that is supposed to be for fun. Hopefully this will all die down eventually and AuKestrel will return, because I will miss her contribution to this fandom. She is one of the most talented authors I've ever had the pleasure of reading, in any fandom.

Near Wild Heaven by AuKestrel
Due South: Fraser/RayK

The longer I read slash, the more I appreciate and crave really long stories like this one. Over a megabyte long, it is a very fulfilling story that re-writes canon in a very believable way. I love post-COTW stories, but I loved this even though COTW doesn't happen in this universe that AuKestrel has so skillfully created. I got the feeling while reading this that AuKestrel has Ray and Fraser whispering in her ear, the characterizations are so accurate. This is what slash is all about, it can't all be hot sex and forgiving co-workers. There are ramifications to be explored when male cops love other male cops, and I like to see those issues dealt with in slash, not glossed over into a perfect fantasy world. Lovely angst, realistic sex, and perfect character voices. You can't ask for more than this.

The link above goes to part one "Losing My Religion." Part two is Sweetness Follows and part three is Near Wild Heaven

Belong by AuKestrel
Due South: Fraser/RayK

I loved this post-COTW story, even though it should have a saccharin warning. Sweet, fluffy, sappy, and still a wonderful story. This story is comfort food. It fills in a missing conversation between Fraser and Ray; just when did they decide to search for the Hand of Franklin together?

I've loved everything I've read by AuKestrel, and I'm dying to get my copy of Hard Core Logo so I can dig into those stories next.

Indulgence by Mia
due South: (Fraser/RayK)

Fraser and Ray on a stake out, and Ray just can't resist getting Fraser a little riled up.

This is a lovely bit of power play, and I don't doubt for a minute that Ray could push Fraser's buttons just so. Not exactly my view of their relationship, but a fun trip regardless.

"Too Sweet" by Resonant
Due South: (Fraser/RayK)

Fraser bakes cookies for Ray. This is a sweet little pop tart with some great banter between Ray and Fraser:

"I don't know how you manage to make baking cookies look so macho," Ray grinned.

"How Ray Got His Groove Back" by Bone and Aristide
Due South: (Fraser/RayK)

I'm linking to the front page of this story at the House of Slash instead of the story itself because you have to see this gorgeous cover art! I know, I know, every Due south rec page on the net recs this story, but I just discovered it, so ttthhppptt! Can we clone Bone and Aristide and force them to write 24/7? When these two get together the result is always magic. Sex magic, perhaps, but magic nonetheless <g>

Ray introduces Fraser to porn, and lots of fucking ensues. How's that for a summary, heh?

True North by Crysothemis
Due South: (Fraser/RayK)

This story hit every one of my angst buttons. I was sniffling through most of this long (384K!) meaty, post-Call of the Wild piece. Fraser sister Maggie accidently lets the cat out of the bag about Fraser's feelings for Ray, and Ray bolts. What follows is a long, emotional journey for Ray, one that I find incredibly honest and down to earth. I believed it, and thoroughly enjoyed going on this rollar coaster ride with Ray.

Double Vision / Single Truth by Crysothemis
Due South: (Fraser/RayK)

It was really hard to pick just one story by Crysothemis, so I'm reccing two. This one is a skillfully written switching POV, which I totally admire. Ray finds a picture of Fraser dressed as a woman in "Some Like it Red." Ray and Fraser are constantly thinking the same thing, but still manage to completely misunderstand each other. It's funny, and sexy and just a little bit angsty, a perfect first time DS story IMHO.

"Dirty" by Shrift
Due South: (Fraser/RayK)

I didn't know I had a dirty Fraser fetish, but who wouldn't after this:

Fraserís dirty.

Heís dirty and wet.

Mudís everywhere on his uniform, really bad on his left side and up his back. Heís got these little spots of mud like freckles on his face and neck. He lost his Stetson at some point when he took off after Spender, because his hair is plastered to his skull. Curling over his forehead like a Greek statue, kind of like David. One of those fake pocket flaps is unbuttoned on his chest and that just gets me right where I live.

Fraser: dirty, wet and unbuttoned

Read everything by Shrift while you're there. She has great taste in hotties, Callum Keith Rennie, Ewan McGregor, Ben Browder. yowza

Due South archive
I can't believe its been over a month since I updated this log, especially since all I've been doing lately is reading. I fell in love with a new fandom, Due South, and with my typical obsessive behavior, I haven't been doing much of anything except watching and taping the Kowalski episodes off of TNT and reading all the Fraser/RayK stories I can find.

Of course that's not much of a hardship, considering that some of my favorite TS authors also write Due South, like Bone, Aristide, and Resonant. But I'm going to take a moment and pull myself out of a great story to post some Due South recs so I can find them again later, before I get completely buried in stories.
